The kitchen reno continues
Hello everyone! I've been out of the loop for a while now and not much has happened back at Casa Arizona. The kitchen backsplash FINALLY got done 8 or 9 months after the cabinets were installed but that was due to my inability to choose the tile and I needed a little rest from such chores, but it's not grouted yet and baseboards were attached in the kitchen and hallway just today.
I searched high and low for tiles but in the end the tile I finally chose was a very basic bone coloured subway tile on clearance at Home Depot. It was laid in a brick design and there is a basketweave design inbetween the stove and OTR microwave. I have been unable to decide upon a grout colour but I'm thinking I might want to go a little lighter than the tile because I find the dark lines that I currently see make the backsplash too busy looking. Next the walls need to be painted and I'm thinking BM Capilano Bridge, but open to suggestions. |

Looks good! I bet you can't wait to just be done and be able to finally sit in your finished kitchen enjoying it all.

Looks very good and I really like the basketweave idea. As for the grout I would follow the colours of your countertop and go darker. Lighter makes them disappear I feel, but maybe that's the look you want.

It looks great Arizona!! I would go with a grout in the same colour as the subway tile. I attached a photo to give you an idea. I think you are right, if you want to decrease any chance of it looking too busy then avoid adding another colour into the mix.
In this photo the tiles look beautiful but do not steal the show so to speak. There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we choose to celebrate. |

Sorry, can not help you with grout colour - probably it's a good idea to keep the same as tiles.
As for the wall, I would choose more grayish tones, because BM Capilano Bridge is the same as your cabinets - too much the same colour. But it's personal preference - may be you want to have monochromatic kitchen... On BM -site there is tool where you can preview kitchen with the same colour cabinets as yours, so I played and there are some nice gray colours: gray timber wolf gray cloud sweet innocence (blue undertone) san antonio gray valley forge fan (brown undertone) Of course, you should see them at your own space, they may look very different from internet pics. P.S. You have some gray in the countertops, so I think it would look great on the walls! |

I agree that the grout needs to be consistent with the tile.

RE: The kitchen reno continues
I should check that out on the BM tool on their site, I almost went with a subway tile the same colour as Capilano Bridge because I LOVED how it looked with the cabinets but it didn't look so hot with the countertop.
I'm trying to keep it monochromatic in a way because it makes the space seem so much larger. Originally I had thought about going with one of those modern yellow greens that are so popular, well they were last year LOL I'll play around on the BM site when I get some time. Thanks for the suggestions. (02-16-2010 02:25 PM)Mrs.Fancy Wrote: Sorry, can not help you with grout colour - probably it's a good idea to keep the same as tiles. |
